Rita Eghujovbo - Making waves on the airwaves

What matters in life is not who you are or where you come from but what comes first, which is your desire and ability to triumph always. That is the everyday philosophy that has so imbued Rita Eghujovbo in her professional path and its winning tricks. It is the opening statements in the profiling of one of the new generational amazons in the broadcast industry of our time.

She is called the ‘Queen of the Airwaves’ having mastered the intrigues and varieties that crops up so often in a broadcasters romance with the microphones in the sound proof radio studios. She is so entangled in her job that at all times the schedules ranges from conversations with people, reading, watching television and taking further steps that put her on top of her games. Because it is often said that presenters without preps talk themselves out of the tube or the microphone, Rita has therefore continued to keep herself busy with what makes her show more interesting to the listeners all the time.

A Delta State born Theatre Arts graduate of the famous University of Benin, Rita Onome Eghujovbo is a pioneer staff of Hot 98.3 FM situated in Abuja. She started her broadcast career in 2000 as a TV presenter with Media Plus Communications in Edo State, Nigeria. Rita who crossed from private production to real time radio broadcasting currently hosts the birthday show ( her birthday is on April 2nd actually ) in the morning belt of the station which broadcasts from the summit of the Apo Hills.

She also co-produces and presents ‘Dateline Abuja’ that has made her a household name and symbol of excellence amongst her peers and fans that are spread in clusters of the Federal Capital Territory, and North Central States of Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi and parts of Kaduna State which is the reach of her current stable

In between her current career in broadcasting, Rita had attended so many trainings and had also strings properly in journalism and advertising. She is an Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria registered member and has actually carved a niche for herself in advertising and public relations.

No persons in the public will know how much is on her shoulder as regards advertising and its demand despite always keeping the people happy and proud in her radio shows. Her drives have also seen her undergo the British Broadcasting World Service Trust training for producers and presenters. On journalism she veered into most important aspects of journalism where she had training attestations on Investigative Reportage. Her broadcast career has also been crowned with the prestigious Best Presenter Award of the Abuja Merit Awards Council.

She says her primary objective is in putting smiles on people’s faces, building happiness and reliving happiness in broken homes by ensuring that she reminds Abuja and its environs residents to make their loved ones happy and recognising their importance on their birthdays. At the last count The Queen as always referred by fans and colleagues has a compilation of over 5000 birthday reminders and makes it most times,  a point of duty in putting on air her celebrants and asking them how they feel and wish to celebrate their birthdays which most often they do not even remember.

Rita who is married to Dr Simeon Eghujovbo and has three lovely children says overtime she has also inculcated the principle of always treating every single person she meets with great respect and consideration. Not only because it’s the respectful and human thing to do, but also because it is a small world and you never know when someone might become an avatar of good things to you.

Rita loves real people and like most people she has real distaste for sycophantic people in our everyday life. She also share the views that YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE EVERYTHING YOU WANT IN LIFE IF YOU WILL HELP ENOUGH OTHER PEOPLE GET WHAT THEY WANT’’. At the tail she had also added this; ‘Believes you are what you say you are. No one is indispensable, but while you’re in the turf, leave no one in doubt that you are in charge’
