Naija's Twitter King @Tweetoracle, Speaks

Just like it is said that culture is the identity of a particular people of a particular place and bears their signatures over time, Nigerians have been acquiring some notoriety on the ever growing popular social utility, twitter. As a proficient user of this facility I have observed first hand to my utter dismay, the flamboyant online abuse of basic etiquettes and I continue to wonder just how badly this affects the image of Africa’s most populous country.
First and foremost, Nigerians on twitter have this rude attitude of laughing at people who make grammatical errors in their tweets. Such are infamously termed ‘’GBAGAUN’’ and always gets the attention of some low lives who may or may not be able to even construct proper sentences on their own. Tweeps are thus expected to be next to perfect and be without errors in their tweets to be able to escape embarrassing moments when other tweeps laugh at their supposed errors. Again this provokes serious questions as to the level of maturity of most Nigerians on twitter.

Nigerians on twitter attach so much importance to followship that one often begin to wonder if there is a prize for tweeps with most number of followers or if at all the number of followers actually increases the size of the body organs. Nigerian tweeps treat follow backs as a matter of life and death and would go to utterly nasty lengths to abuse tweeps who unfollow them. This is totally against the concept of the utility which basically allows people to choose who they want to follow or unfollow.
The manner with which Nigerians ask for these follow backs is really very appalling,it often sounds menancingly commandling and unfriendly that most people used to nice and polite ways would definitely not want to comply with such tall orders.I have constantly had problems with other nigerians on twitter over issues such as this but doesn’t seem to be getting any better.

The most appaling is the fact that so many Nigerians on twitter would actually engage other tweeps in strong exchage of insults popularly known as ‘’twitfights’’ to get more followers. This is yet another unacceptable behaviour I have noticed about my country men using this social utility and continue to advise against.I am not perfect though cos I do have my moments when I could get provoked and then unleash some bit of venom on the offenders, hell,no one is perfect but I try not to lose my cool often.

The general consensus is that everyone is on twitter to have fun and that nothing is ever serious, this is what u would see most Nigerians say about twitter but we all know that this statement is characteristically false and you will easily find out the truth when you unfollow most of them. They would go on for months with smear campaigns all to avenge a supposed badly bruised ego.
On the subject of avatar misuse,I would actually say here that Nigerians arent the only ones promoting pornography and nudity on twitter, that is just a common global phenomenon ,people just like to see and share provocative pictures and materials online and one would continue to wonder the fate of the unborn children of tomorrow cos of the rapidly eroded virtues amongst the youths of nowadays.

Star Actress - Tontoh Dikeh with TweetOracle and other fans on Twitter

I just highlighted some of the socially unacceptable behaviours of Nigerians on twitter which I continue to address from time to time in my own little way but it would take concerted efforts on the part of well meaning Nigerians to effectively curb this negative trend that is threatening to further worsen the country’s image.Twitter even though an online utility should be a place people can sign on to,make new friends, share their daily experiences and ofcourse increase their knowledge base. I believe strongly in these values as these are the ideas behind my tweet philosophy and I do hope and believe that in time sanity and politeness would begin to reflect in the way Nigerians tweet
